Transformed by God
God is using Prison Ministries to renew hope and transform lives. Adventist Prison Ministries coordinates the volunteers reaching out to those affected by incarceration throughout Jinja.
Prisons ministry by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jinja started as simple errands to the prisons on Sabbath but now it is a vibrant ministry which has restored hope to many inmates, warders and other people in the community. Despite the challenges faced at Maranatha radio in reaching people with the gospel, the prison ministry has remained a vibrant arm of the Church in reaching the inmates with the message of hope. Every Sabbath, Mr. Odhiambo Josephat, the Station Manager visits Kirinya Prison and shares God’s word with the inmates many of whom have accepted the biblical truth and have been baptised. The ministry has challenges as well. To promote the prisons ministry, inmates need to be supplied with literature such as notebooks, bibles and other church literature as to keep the inmates meditate upon the word of God. Prison warders have notified the Church about a progressive improvement in the discipline of inmates ever since the Adventist Church started to minister to the inmates.
Volunteers help in three primary ways with Prison Ministry:
- Ministry Team volunteers offer Bible studies and worship services within Kirinya Prison in Jinja.
- Mobilize for soap, razor blades, etc. to be provided to the inmates during visitations.
- Mobilize for support for three (3) men and three (3) women while they transition back into society from incarceration.
